Best Kanna Supplements, Scored on Label Transparency
Eleven kanna capsules, tablets and powders ranked by how much their own product pages disclose, not by how they feel.
Of 11 kanna-forward supplements we scored on label data, LiftMode's Kanna Extract 50mg Capsules and MesemBright tie for first, with Nootropics Depot's FSK53 tablets and powder next. Scores reward disclosure: alkaloid amounts, lot-matched lab reports, serving math, warnings, ingredient clarity. We did not lab-test anything, and the score says nothing about effects.
What are the best kanna supplements, side by side?
The best kanna supplements on a transparency basis are the ones that tell you the most on the product page. The table below is sorted by score and shows only what each vendor states. "Not stated" means we did not find it on the product page, not that it does not exist. Looking for kanna capsules, kanna extract or kanna powder brands? All three forms are here.

How did each product score?
Each product gets up to 100 points from five label-only categories. A high score means a page tells you a lot. It does not mean the product is stronger, safer or better for you. Full rubric below.
| Product | Alkaloid disclosure (25) | Lab report (25) | Serving math (20) | Warnings (15) | Ingredient clarity (15) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LiftMode Kanna Extract 50mg Capsules | 25 | 12 | 20 | 15 | 15 | 87 |
| LiftMode MesemBright | 25 | 12 | 20 | 15 | 15 | 87 |
| Nootropics Depot FSK53 tablets | 25 | 25 | 20 | 0 | 10 | 80 |
| Nootropics Depot FSK53 powder | 25 | 25 | 10 | 0 | 10 | 70 |
| LiftMode MT55 Kanna Extract Powder | 5 | 12 | 20 | 15 | 10 | 62 |
| Double Wood Kanna Supplement | 15 | 25 | 10 | 0 | 10 | 60 |

| Doctor's Best Calm-Z with Zembrin | 8 | 0 | 20 | 10 | 15 | 53 |
| G1 Nutrition Kannect | 15 | 12 | 0 | 15 | 10 | 52 |
| Nutricost Zembrin | 8 | 5 | 20 | 0 | 15 | 48 |
| Swanson Full Spectrum Sceletium | 0 | 0 | 20 | 5 | 15 | 40 |
Two patterns stand out. Only the Nootropics Depot and Double Wood pages say you can look up a lab report by your bottle's lot number, and none of the big-retailer Zembrin capsules or tablets showed a lab report or an alkaloid figure on the page. A zero in the warnings column means we did not find a warning in the page text we read. The product's physical label may differ from its web page.
What does each listing actually say?
- LiftMode capsules (two products). Both give mesembrine-type alkaloid amounts per capsule on the supplement facts. LiftMode's pages say "HPLC-tested" and link a COA index from the site footer, but we did not see a way to match it to a lot from the product page. Both add 150 mg of inositol. The warning says not to combine with antidepressants "(e.g. SSRIs and MAOIs)" and recommends avoiding kanna in pregnancy and breastfeeding. LiftMode also sells other kanna formats we did not score. Source, source.
- Nootropics Depot FSK53. The most specific lab-report system we found: a list of lot-numbered CoAs, with "find the lot number on your bottle and click on the matching COA." The page also gives both a total-alkaloid and a mesembrine percentage. We did not find an interaction or pregnancy warning in the page text, and the powder page notes it has no scoop, so measuring 50 mg takes a milligram scale. Tablets, powder.
- Double Wood. States "min. 0.4% total alkaloids" for its KannaEase extract and shows a lot-specific lab report on the page (identity, heavy metals and microbial counts, among other lines). It was backordered when we checked, and the page gives "a four month supply" rather than a capsule count. Source.
- Zembrin products (Source Naturals, Doctor's Best, Nutricost). All name Zembrin, the branded extract used in published trials, and state the amount. None of the pages gives an alkaloid percentage, an extract ratio or a lab report. Only Source Naturals names the drug classes (MAOIs, SSRIs) in its warning. Doctor's Best says "Daily oral dose not to exceed 50 mg." Nutricost's page says each batch is tested by "independent ISO-accredited laboratories" but links no report. A third-party listing shows a 25 mg version; Nutricost's own page shows 50 mg.
- G1 Nutrition Kannect. States "3% alkaloids," links a Eurofins report and carries a clear MAOI and SSRI warning. Each capsule holds a 100 mg blend of kanna and black pepper extract, and the page does not say how much of that is kanna or how many capsules come in a bottle.
- Swanson Full Spectrum. The only whole-herb product here, and the page is upfront that it is "not a concentrated or standardized extract." Whole herb and extract strengths are not comparable. Its warning mentions only "prescription medication."
Which products are blends, or not scored?
Blends, not ranked. These pair kanna with another active, so they are not comparable with the table above.
- NOW Calm & Focus with Zembrin & GABA (Vitacost label): 25 mg Zembrin plus 300 mg GABA, 60 capsules, $23.26.
- Protocol for Life Balance Sceletium Extract (Vitacost label): 25 mg Zembrin plus 300 mg GABA, 60 capsules, $40.00.
Considered but not scored.
- KannaFocus 50mg + BioPerine: the only page we could read was a retailer's, and its text had no Supplement Facts panel (serving size, amounts, other ingredients). We could not open the Amazon listing, so we did not score it.
- BulkSupplements kanna capsules and powder: every size showed as out of stock on Oct 29, and the supplement facts were not in the page text.
- Hearthstone Collective capsules, Herbera tincture, Total Ingredients 10:1 powder: we could not load a vendor page we could verify, so we recorded nothing.
- Tea and tinctures: we found no current US kanna tea product page and no tincture page with stated alkaloid data. We will add them when we do.
- Cannabis or hemp products: excluded from this site entirely.
How do these amounts compare with trial doses?
Published human trials of kanna used a specific extract, Zembrin, at 8 mg and 25 mg a day (and single 25 mg doses) in small groups of healthy adults [1][2][3]. A 3-month safety trial of 37 people tested 8 mg and 25 mg daily and did not assess whether it worked [1]. Several authors of these studies are affiliated with Zembrin's owner [1][3].
| Benchmark | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Zembrin, 3-month safety trial (n=37) | 8 mg or 25 mg daily | [1] |
| Zembrin, single dose, brain imaging (n=16) | 25 mg | [2] |
| Zembrin, single dose, two small studies (n=20) | 25 mg | [3] |
| Zembrin products in the table | 25 mg (Source Naturals, Doctor's Best) or 50 mg (Nutricost) | Product pages |
| Other extracts in the table (MT55, KannaEase, FSK53, MesemBright) | 30 to 50 mg of extracts with different or unstated strength | Product pages |
The catch: extracts are not interchangeable. A 50 mg capsule of one extract can contain a very different amount of mesembrine-type alkaloids than 50 mg of another, and only a few pages give those numbers. The trial amounts apply to Zembrin only, and none of the products here has been tested in a published trial as a finished product. We do not recommend a dose; see what studies and labels use and what Zembrin is.
What should I check before buying a kanna supplement?
Check that the page tells you what is in the product and how to verify it. Use this list:
- Extract or whole herb? The page should say which. If it says extract, look for a named extract or ratio. A ratio alone (such as 10:1) says how much plant went in, not how many alkaloids came out. Kanna extract explained.
- An alkaloid number. Mesembrine mg per serving, or a percentage of total alkaloids. "High potency" is not a number. About mesembrine.
- A lab report for your lot. Look for a CoA you can match to the lot number on the bottle, with identity and contaminant results. See how to read a kanna label.
- Serving math. mg per serving, servings per container, and price per serving you can calculate.
- Everything else in the capsule. Other actives (inositol, GABA, black pepper extract) change what you are comparing.
- A real warning. Antidepressant and pregnancy cautions should be on the label. See is kanna safe?
- Form fits you. Powders need a milligram scale; capsules do not. Kanna capsules, kanna powder.
Who should be careful with kanna supplements?
Anyone who takes antidepressants or other serotonergic medicines should talk to a doctor or pharmacist before using kanna. Kanna's alkaloids appear to inhibit the serotonin transporter in lab studies [4], and the main concern is combining it with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, tricyclics, triptans or St. John's wort. Several labels in the table say so; others do not. Details: is kanna safe?, kanna and SSRIs and kanna drug interactions.
- Pregnant or nursing: several vendors advise avoiding kanna, and there is not enough safety data [5]. Ask a clinician.
- The studies behind kanna are small and mostly in healthy adults. The U.S. FDA does not review dietary supplements for safety or effectiveness before they are sold [6].
- Stop and seek medical advice if you notice unwanted effects. Do not combine with alcohol or other psychoactive substances.
How did we score and verify these supplements?
We scored only what product pages state. We do not buy, test or taste products, we make no claims about effects, and we did not rank on reviews or ratings. All 11 scored products were read on October 29, 2026.
| Category (points) | How points are awarded |
|---|---|
| Alkaloid disclosure (25) | 25: mesembrine or alkaloid mg per serving, or both a total-alkaloid and mesembrine %. 15: a total-alkaloid % only. 8: a named branded extract with no numbers. 5: vague wording ("full alkaloid profile"). 0: nothing. |
| Lab report (25) | 25: a CoA you can match to your lot from the page. 12: a CoA index or linked report not matched to a lot. 5: a testing claim with no report. 0: nothing. |
| Serving math (20) | 10: the page states mg of kanna (or kanna extract) per serving as its own figure. 10: the page states servings per container as a number (a capsule or tablet count counts when one unit is the serving). No partial credit: a size without a serving count, a "supply" in months, or a blend that gives one combined figure for kanna and another ingredient earns 0 for that line. |
| Warnings (15) | 15: names specific drug classes (SSRIs, MAOIs) and pregnancy. 10: refers to antidepressant or anxiety medication in general terms, and pregnancy. 5: only a generic "medication" or pregnancy caution. 0: none found on the page. |
| Ingredient clarity (15) | 5 each, all or nothing: the page says whether the product is an extract or whole herb; the page names the plant part (aerial parts, stems and leaves, whole plant); the page lists other ingredients or states there are none. Every product is scored by these same rules. |
Limits. We do not lab-test any product. A page can disclose a lot and still be wrong, or disclose little and be fine. Some labels are shown as images that we read, and two brands (Source Naturals, Doctor's Best) were read from retailer pages. A "not stated" entry reflects the page we read on the date shown. Where a vendor tells us we misread a page, we will fix it; see corrections.
Refresh and changelog. We re-check this page quarterly; next review January 2027.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best kanna supplement?
On our label-transparency score, LiftMode's two capsules (Kanna Extract 50mg and MesemBright) tie for first, followed by Nootropics Depot's FSK53 tablets (third) and powder (fourth). That score measures what each product page discloses, not how a product feels or works, and we have not lab-tested anything. See how we score.
Is kanna better as a capsule, a powder or an extract?
'Extract' describes what is in the product, while capsule, tablet and powder describe the form. Capsules and tablets give a fixed amount per unit; powders need a milligram scale. What matters more than form is whether the page states the extract type, an alkaloid figure, a lab report for your lot, and a serving size. See kanna drinks vs. capsules.
How much kanna is in a supplement?
On the pages we read, it ranges from 25 mg (Zembrin products) to 50 mg per serving, with one 100 mg blend. Published trials used 8 mg and 25 mg of Zembrin, a specific extract, and other extracts are not interchangeable with it. See our dosage guide.
What is a certificate of analysis (CoA) and why does it matter?
A CoA is a lab report. A lot-matched CoA means you can look up the batch number on your bottle and read the results for that batch. Only two brands we scored (Nootropics Depot and Double Wood) say on the page that you can do this.
Can I take a kanna supplement with an antidepressant?
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first. Kanna appears to act on the serotonin system, and several of these labels warn about antidepressants. Read our safety guide and kanna and SSRIs.
